The Border of Reality
Location: Las Pozas, Mexico
Programme: Virtual Reality Experience
Questioning the border of reality by playing with perception and how we understand our surroundings, the experience explores surrealism through a virtual reality journey of the Las Pozas sculpture garden by Edward James in Mexico, Xoximilco.
The 360 encapsulation is embraced in the VR experience and manipulated to enhance the surrealism of objects and architectural elements to shift, rotate, appear, disappear and scale according to the viewer’s position. Through those surrealist shifts, the viewers develop a mindset of questioning what they see, inevitably imagining possible alternatives of the object and therefore imagining beyond its reality.
Drawing inspiration from Marcel Duchamp, Rene Magritte and Salvatore Dali, the VR experience explores surrealism and escapism while questioning the multiplicity of versions our world can have.
